How It Works

The Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) program, administered by the National Institute for International Education (NIIED), applies absolute and strict academic criteria for prospective undergraduate and graduate applicants. To meet basic eligibility, candidates must show an overall Grade Point Average of **80% (80 points on the 100-point scale)** or above, OR be ranked within the **top 20%** of their class.

The Conversion Strategy

Rather than allowing straightforward proportional math (which often unfairly lowers scores), the GKS maintains an official lookup table found in Appendix A of the Application Guidelines. This table translates standard global GPA values directly to specific integer-based points on the 100-point scale.

For example, a 2.64 CGPA on a 4.0 scale corresponds directly to exactly **80 points**, preserving eligibility for candidates who might otherwise incorrectly calculate a 66% value via simple division.

Unlisted Grading Scales

If your educational institution uses a scale not covered in the standard reference (such as UK Class Honors, ECTS Percentiles, or varying local systems), you are required to submit an official converted transcript.

⚠️ Critical Rule: A transcript converted by tools like Scholaro or WES is only deemed valid for GKS if the completed document is formally authenticated (stamped or signed) by your university registrar.

Dual Eligibility Track

Applicants who fall below the 80% threshold may still qualify for evaluation if their university officially certifies that their Cumulative Class Rank is in the top 20% (e.g., Ranked 9 out of 50 students, yielding 18%). Ensure this certificate contains explicit rank counts.
