🇹🇷 TR-YÖS Public University Evaluator

Benchmark your official ÖSYM TR-YÖS score (100–500) against documented placement tiers used by Turkish public universities for international student admission.

Use the official 100–500 score from your ÖSYM result document, or estimate from raw nets if you are taking a mock.

ÖSYM publishes TR-YÖS scores on a fixed 100–500 scale (min 100, max 500).

Tier thresholds reflect typical Turkish public university base-score bands observed across 2023–2025 placements.

How the TR-YÖS Algorithm Works

The TR-YÖS (Türkiye Yurt Dışından Öğrenci Kabul Sınavı) is the centralized entrance exam administered by ÖSYM on behalf of YÖK for international applicants to Turkish higher education. The exam consists of 80 questions total — 40 General Aptitude and 40 Basic Mathematics — completed in 100 minutes.

ÖSYM computes the final score in four stages: (1) raw net per section using ¼ negative marking — every 4 wrong answers cancel 1 correct; (2) standardized scores with population mean = 50 and standard deviation = 10; (3) weighted total applying coefficient 0.45 to General Aptitude and 0.55 to Basic Mathematics; (4) linear rescale to the fixed 100–500 TR-YÖS scale where 100 is the lowest and 500 is the highest in the cohort.

The 0.5 Net Eligibility Trap

ÖSYM only computes a TR-YÖS score if you achieve at least 0.5 net points in at least one of the two sections. Score below 0.5 net in both sections and your result is invalidated — you receive no TR-YÖS score regardless of how many gross correct answers you had. Heavy random-guessing can leave the strongest candidates with a zero score.

Why 100 is Not Zero

The 100–500 scale is a norm-referenced rank, not a percentage. A score of 100 means "lowest valid candidate in this cohort," not 0%. Likewise, 500 means "top valid candidate," not 100%. Public universities publish minimum admission scores on this same scale (commonly 200 for open programs, 350–400 for competitive engineering, 450+ for medicine).
