Created as Leiyang Academy 1636.
Successively became Leiyang Middle School 1902, Guangdong Provincial 10th Middle School 1926, Guangdong Provincial Leizhou Normal School 1935, Zhanjiang Leizhou Normal School 1968. Merged with Zhanjiang Training School (founded 1958) to shape Leizhou Normal Technical College 1978.
Became Zhanjiang Normal University, acquired present status 1991. Acquired present title 2014.
