Founded 1898 as Craftwork School.
Renamed Wuhan Institute of Iron and Steel 1958. Successively renamed as 湖北Hubei Secondary School of Industry, Hubei First Seeds industry School, Hanyang Advanced Industry Vocational School, Wuchang Advanced Industry Vocational School, South-Central Steel and Iron Industry School, Wuchang Steel and Iron Industry School.
Wuhan Institute of Iron and Steel, Wuhan Junior College of Construction and Wuhan Junior Medical College of Metallurgical Industry, were then incorporated into Wuhan University of Metallurgic Science and Technology 1995. Acquired present title 1999.
