Overview

English Name: Jersey International Centre of Advanced Studies
Institution Type: Research Institute
Control Type: Private

The Jersey International Centre of Advanced Studies, known as JICAS, is a registered charity (Jersey Charity Commission number 443) based at 40 Esplanade in St Helier.

It designs and teaches the MSc Island Biodiversity and Conservation in Jersey in partnership with the BioSciences department of the University of Exeter, which accredits the degree. The programme can be studied full-time or part-time, all fieldwork and core module costs are included in the overall fees, and applications are made through the University of Exeter's postgraduate course page.

JICAS also lists a PhD study route on its website. For the 2026-27 intake it advertises bursaries for international candidates, home-fees candidates and Jersey residents, with details available by email from the centre.

Jersey residents on master's courses can also look to the Government of Jersey's Jersey Bursary, which is run through Student Finance.

JICAS is a small specialist centre rather than a general university, so it suits graduates who want focused postgraduate study of island biodiversity and conservation, including project placements, in a small-island setting.
