Founded as Yaba Technical Institute 1947 and renamed Yaba College of Technology 1963.
Became an autonomous Federal Government owned institution with the promulgation of Yaba College of Technology Decree N° 23 of 1969. Presently the College is governed under the Federal Polytechnics Act [CAP, 139] of the Laws of the Federation 1990, and the Federal Polytechnics (Amendment) Decree 1993.
