Overview
Catalonia College of Music, known locally as the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC), is a public higher music school in Barcelona that is marking its 25th anniversary during the 2026-2027 academic year.
Its teaching and performance activity is organised around three main specialisations: jazz and modern music, early music, and classical and contemporary music, alongside training in production and management, conducting and music pedagogy. Students perform regularly in public through the school's symphony orchestra, large ensembles such as the early-music group that has worked with Jordi Savall, a cobla ensemble and chamber projects.
A stable concert series, Dimarts Toca ESMUC, gives emerging performers a professional stage on Tuesday evenings, while masterclasses, workshops, composition prizes such as the Joan Guinjoan International Prize and festival partnerships, including the Mixtur festival, extend the programme. International exchange is supported through Erasmus+ visits, and the school collaborates with city institutions such as the Barcelona municipal band.
Public events and open sessions also connect students with audiences across the city.
