Overview
Georgia Northwestern Technical College is a public technical college in northwest Georgia and a unit of the Technical College System of Georgia.
It serves Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, Floyd, Gordon, Murray, Polk, Walker and Whitfield counties through six campuses, including the Whitfield Murray Campus in Dalton. The college took its current form on 1 July 2009, when Coosa Valley Technical College, founded in Rome in 1962, merged with Northwestern Technical College, founded in Walker County in 1964.
Later additions include the Woodlee Culinary Arts Center, an aviation training center at the Richard B. Russell Regional Airport and newer campus buildings in Whitfield and Catoosa counties.
Students can earn associate degrees, technical diplomas and technical certificates of credit.
Programs are grouped into four divisions: Aviation and Industrial Technologies, Business and Cyber Related Technologies, Nursing and Health Technologies, and Public Service Technologies. Instruction is offered in person and through distance education, and the college works with high schools on dual enrollment.
Applicants apply online and pay a non-refundable application fee, submit a high school or GED transcript, and most take the ACCUPLACER placement test. Tuition is charged per credit hour, and Georgia grants such as the HOPE Career Grant can cover tuition for eligible technical prograMs. The college states that it has no international admissions office, so prospective international applicants should contact Admissions directly.
