Overview
Hudson Valley Community College is a public two-year college in Troy, New York, part of the State University of New York system.
Opened in 1953, it is the largest community college in upstate New York and serves the Capital Region around Albany. Degree and certificate programs sit in three schools: Business and Liberal Arts, Health Sciences, and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.
Students can attend by day, in the evening, online or at off-campus sites, and the college reports a student-to-faculty ratio of 19 to 1. Many graduates continue to four-year institutions, and the college lists transfer agreements with schools such as RPI, UAlbany and Siena.
A separate Educational Opportunity Center offers free academic and career training to people who qualify.
International students come from more than 40 countries. The college does not run on-campus housing, so students rent nearby, and registered students ride Capital District Transportation Authority buses at no charge.
Applicants whose first language is not English show proficiency through TOEFL iBT or IELTS, and the college sets earlier suggested deadlines for fall and spring starts.
