Overview
Vincennes University is a state-supported public institution in Vincennes, Indiana, with a second campus in Jasper.
It was founded in 1801 by territorial governor William Henry Harrison as Jefferson Academy, and it is recognised as Indiana's first college and the only public university established before statehood. The university offers more than 180 majors, spanning certificates, associate degrees and a growing set of bachelor's prograMs. Many associate programs are designed either for transfer to a four-year institution or for direct entry into a career or technical field, and its academic units include colleges of business and public service, health sciences and human performance, humanities, social science, performing arts and communication, and technology.
Admission to a degree or certificate program requires a college transcript, or a GED or HiSET result, or a high school transcript for students with fewer than 24 postsecondary credit hours. Applicants can apply with the VU application or the Common App and show college readiness through a high school GPA, prior college credit, SAT or ACT scores, or the Accuplacer placement test.
Students seeking financial aid complete the FAFSA, and the university also awards academic scholarships.
