Short courses (<12 months) pay the premium pro-rated to course length.

Range RM0–RM50 depending on country. RM20 applies to most nationalities; some (e.g. Singapore, Brunei) are RM0.

Security deposit required by Immigration Malaysia. Varies RM200–RM2,000 by nationality and is fully refundable upon completion of studies.

How It Works

1. The Processing-Fee Matrix

EMGS charges a tiered processing fee by institution category and study duration. For Peninsular public/private universities, a new application under 6 months costs RM800; over 6 and up to 12 months is RM1,600. Renewal is a flat RM250. Language centres pay RM500 new / RM140 renewal. International Accredited Training Centres and Mobility programmes pay RM250–500. ODL is flat RM450.

2. The 8% Service Tax Trap

Since 1 March 2024, an 8% Service Tax applies only to the Processing Fee and eVAL (RM150). Insurance, iKad, medical, sticker, visa and courier are not taxed. Naive calculators that flatly apply SST to the grand total overstate the bill β€” this tracker applies it only to taxable components.

3. Static Add-Ons

The eVAL (RM150), iKad (RM50), medical screening (RM250, new applicants only), Student Pass sticker (RM60 per year) and courier (RM10) are fixed nationwide. The Multiple-Entry Visa fee depends on nationality, ranging RM0 (e.g. Singapore, Brunei) to RM50 β€” RM20 covers most countries.

4. Adversarial Boundary Defense

Renewal applications skip the RM250 medical (not required by EMGS) and apply renewal-tier processing fees instead. The Personal Bond (RM200–RM2,000, nationality-banded) is held by Immigration as a security deposit and fully refunded on programme completion β€” the tracker therefore breaks out a "Non-Refundable Subtotal" so you know the true sunk cost vs. the full upfront outlay.
