The Universitat d'Andorra's Doctorate Programme trains research staff through a doctoral thesis, an original, unpublished piece of research produced by the doctoral candidate that leads to the state title of doctor awarded by the Universitat d'Andorra. Launched in September 2009, the programme covers research areas with a bearing on Andorra's economic and social development and on improving residents' quality of life, and is organised as a multidisciplinary programme that builds research skills.
Full-time study takes a minimum of six semesters (three years) and a maximum of ten semesters (five years). Each candidate is assigned a thesis supervisor, who must hold a doctorate and have a successful record supervising theses in the candidate's field; during the first two semesters, a tutor, also required to hold a doctorate, guides the candidate. Part-time enrolment is available, requiring a minimum of 15 credits per semester. Admission requires an original, certified bachelor's or master's state qualification from Andorra, or, for foreign qualifications, a government-issued certificate of eligibility for doctoral study.
