The University of Aruba's Master of Science in Sustainability for Engineering, part of the SISSTEM initiative, builds on an engineering foundation to train professionals who can design and implement sustainability solutions suited to small island contexts. It welcomes candidates with a strong technical background in engineering or the natural sciences at bachelor's or master's level, including graduates in physics, mathematics, data science, computer science, biology, chemistry, or environmental science; students missing some background knowledge may need up to 30 extra European credits from the SISSTEM bachelor's program to catch up. Coursework develops advanced, historically and socially aware knowledge of STEM fields, methods such as life-cycle assessment and cost-benefit analysis, and the ability to model human and natural systems across micro, meso, and macro scales while weighing environmental, social, and economic trade-offs. The program runs two years at half-time load, with a maximum completion time of four years, extending to five years for students who must first complete the integrated pre-master.
