The interior design department at Kingdom University is built to welcome students from a wide mix of backgrounds, ages and nationalities, turning that variety into a strength as it develops their knowledge and skills toward careers shaping interior environments. Its curriculum was substantially revised for the 2015-2016 academic year following a benchmarking exercise against the Council for Interior Design Accreditation's professional standards in the United States, with the resulting program reviewed favourably by faculty from the US and Canada before launching in September 2015. Courses and credit loads are sequenced across the years to keep the workload balanced while learning progresses, and much of the teaching happens in a studio setting where students work alongside one another rather than in isolation. Through this collaborative model, students build theoretical, historical and technical grounding together with practical design ability, while sharpening how they communicate ideas orally, in writing and visually. The intent is to give a diverse student body the creative, analytical and critical thinking needed to design interiors suited to many different types of spaces.
