Psychiatric Nursing: Bachelor's Degree (BPN) is a bachelor's degree in Health Sciences programme taught at Kwantlen Polytechnic University in Surrey, Canada. The programme runs for 4 years, delivered on campus. Teaching is in English. Tuition for international students is CAD 756 per credit (CAD 166 per credit for local students).
Recognized under British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives standards, the program's philosophy rests on three guiding principles and six core concepts that run through the curriculum, grounding it in health promotion, therapeutic relationship, and diversity; its core concepts include teaching and learning, professionalism, choice, situatedness, being, and client-centeredness, with each person considered within their culture, religion, ethnicity, race, historical experience, spirituality, and abilities, with diversity, equity, and social justice running through the curriculum, which examines how environment, social factors affecting health, the meaning of health and illness, and the effects of treatment, prevention, and promotion shape a person's well-being.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: The Faculty requirement here is KPU's undergraduate English Proficiency Requirement, set out in the university's own admission requirements. On top of it this programme asks for: BIOL 1150 or BIOL 1160 at C+ or better; BIOL 1250 or BIOL 1260 at C+ or better; ENGL 1100 at C+ or better; PSYC 1100 at C+ or better; PSYC 1200 at C+ or better; and a further 15 credits of undergraduate coursework at C+ or better. Entry is competitive and selection is made on the highest admission GPA across those required courses. Everyone newly admitted must then produce a valid Canadian CPR Basic Life Support or CPR Health Care Provider certificate, kept current throughout; a current Standard First Aid certificate; a criminal record check cleared through the Criminal Records Review Program run by BC's Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General, dated no more than six months before the programme begins; and an Immunization Record Form covering the vaccinations listed in BC's Practice Education Guidelines. KPU states that students who are not vaccinated may not be able to take up a place, and that immunisations must be kept current for as long as you are in the programme. Each intake holds back three seats for graduates of KPU's Certificate in Health Care Assistant and three for self-declared Indigenous students, with unused reserved seats returning to the general pool. Continuing requires a cumulative GPA of 2.67, C+ in standard-graded required courses and MAS in mastery-graded ones. The degree runs to at least 121 credits, including the entry courses, and must be completed within seven years. KPU's calendar page sets out these requirements without separating domestic from international applicants, so the same standard applies to both.
Application Details
Start Date:The University Calendar lists this programme's own start dates as Fall (September) and Summer (May); it lists no Spring (January) start, so that term is not an entry point for it even though KPU runs it institution-wide. Under the Senate-approved 2026-27 schedule Fall runs 8 September to 17 December 2026 and Summer 10 May to 24 August 2027.
Application Deadline:KPU classifies this as a Limited Intake programme: the number of seats is capped, applications are assessed against one another, and meeting the published minimums does not guarantee admission. The University Calendar lists this programme with Fall (September) and Summer (May) starts, so only the windows below apply to it; KPU's institution-wide Limited Intake timetable also covers terms this programme does not admit into. FALL (SEPTEMBER) INTAKE: applications open on 1 October of the previous year and the Limited Intake deadline is 1 March, so the Fall 2027 window runs 1 October 2026 to 1 March 2027; offers to domestic applicants (Canadian citizens and permanent residents) begin in November and offers to international applicants in late January. SUMMER (MAY) INTAKE: applications open 1 June and close 1 December, with offers from early August. Some Limited Intake programmes close early when demand is high, and others extend the deadline when seats remain - the current extension list is at kpu.ca/admission/deadlines-extended. KPU notes that selected Limited Intake programmes may still consider domestic applicants after the term's final application date (1 July for Fall and 1 March for Summer); international applicants get no such latitude, because KPU accepts nothing after those same dates. Applications open at 00:00 and close at 23:59 Pacific time. Both applicant types apply through EducationPlannerBC at apply.educationplannerbc.ca/kpu; the non-refundable application fee is CAD 40 for domestic applicants and CAD 120 for international applicants, and the confirmation deposit for a Limited Intake offer is CAD 500 domestic or CAD 5,000 international.
