Trades - Apprenticeship in Apprenticeship in Climbing Arborist

The Apprenticeship in Climbing Arborist trains apprentices in tree work such as pruning, disease control, structural support and tree removal, and is the second of three sequential trades credentials in arboriculture offered at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, following the Arborist Technician credential. Apprentices attend one eight-week technical training session at the Langley campus covering aerial lift operations, tree identification, management of pests and diseases, rigging, climbing, aerial rescue, job planning and risk assessment; the curriculum is developed and approved by the arboriculture industry. An apprenticeship is established when an employer and employee sign and register an Apprentice and Sponsor Registration form with SkilledTradesBC, and apprentices may apply to SkilledTradesBC for credit toward work-based training completed before the apprenticeship was established. Entry requires completed KPU Apprentice Registration, active registration in the BC Apprenticeship system, a valid Trade Worker Identification number, and completion of the Arborist Technician credential; Grade 10 including English 10, Math 10 and Science 10 is recommended.
