Program details

Overview

The Master of Philosophy in Humanities is an interdisciplinary, course-based graduate program housed in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Memorial University of Newfoundland. The degree draws on coursework from one or more Humanities disciplines rather than an independent research thesis and can normally be completed in two years of full-time study. It lets students design a program of study that crosses traditional disciplinary boundaries within the humanities. The program is offered on the St. John's campus and prepares graduates for further study or careers requiring broad, interdisciplinary humanities expertise. Its flexible, course-based structure suits students whose research interests span more than one humanities discipline and who prefer a coursework credential over a thesis. As of 2026, the university states that admissions to this program are not being considered.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Applicants require a bachelor's degree, with a minimum second-class honours standing, in one or more Humanities disciplines, for admission to this interdisciplinary, course-based program.
