Memorial University of Newfoundland is a public, multi-campus university based in St.
John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, and is the province's only university. It is a community of more than 17,000 students drawn from over 100 countries, including 3,000+ international students, spread across four teaching campuses: St.
John's, Grenfell Campus in Corner Brook, the Labrador Campus in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, and the Fisheries and Marine Institute. Teaching and research are shaped by the province's Atlantic setting — Memorial's ocean-facing strengths run from the Department of Ocean Sciences at the Ocean Sciences Centre in Logy Bay to the Fisheries and Marine Institute and the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science, which offers what the university describes as the only co-operative ocean and naval architectural engineering program in the world.
All Bachelor of Engineering disciplines are five-year co-operative degrees combining eight academic terms with a minimum of four paid full-time work terms, and the Faculty of Business Administration holds AACSB accreditation for its MBA and graduate diploma.
Cost is a distinguishing feature: for 2026-27, Memorial publishes annual undergraduate tuition of CAD 6,750 for Canadian students and CAD 22,500 for international students (two semesters, ten courses), while graduate fees are unusually low — a two-year master's costs international students CAD 9,666 for the whole program. The university markets more than 300 program options at what it calls some of the most affordable tuition rates in Canada.
Undergraduate entry requires an overall IELTS Academic band of 6.5, and non-refundable application fees are CAD 70 for Canadian and CAD 300 for international applicants.
