The Associate of Arts Degree (Education) prepares you for entry into the Alaska Highway Consortium on Teacher Education, the joint teacher-training program offered by Simon Fraser University and NLC. Credits may also be applied toward a degree. You'll take courses in a range of subjects, including English, Geography, History, Math, First Nations Studies, Education, and more.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Domestic applicants meet the English requirement with a 'C' grade or higher in English 12, English Literature 12, or English First Peoples 12, or an equivalent university-level English course, with the NLC Writing Assessment available otherwise; Math requires a 'C' (60%) or higher in Pre-Calculus 11, Principles of Mathematics 11, or Foundations of Math 11, or readiness for MATH 050 via CCP appraisal. As a University Arts and Sciences credential, this Associate degree falls under NLC's published English Language Requirement for international and non-English-educated applicants: Academic IELTS 6.0 overall with no band below 5.5, TOEFL iBT 78 overall (Speaking 19, Listening 19, Reading 18, Writing 23), CAEL 60 overall (no section below 50), PTE Academic 57 overall (no section below 50), or Duolingo 110 overall. Students bound for the EDUC 252 practicum must obtain a Schedule B Criminal Record Check for work with children and vulnerable adults, cleared by NLC 3-6 weeks in advance, before starting that placement. A 2.00 program GPA with a 'D' (50%) minimum per course is required. The degree offers Fall, Winter, and Spring intakes at four locations.

Application Deadline:Northern Lights College uses one admissions calendar for domestic and international applicants alike, applying through EducationPlannerBC or in person. Applications open about eleven months before each intake: 1 October for the following Fall, 1 February for the following Winter, and 1 June for the following Spring. For the 2027 cycle the priority deadline is 30 September 2026 for Winter 2027 entry, 31 January 2027 for Spring 2027 entry, and 31 May 2027 for Fall 2027 entry (dual-credit applicants get until 24 October 2026 and 23 June 2027 respectively), with a tuition deposit due about a month after each priority date. NLC states international applicants already in Canada on a valid visa follow the same domestic deadlines; after the priority date, seats remain open, on a rolling basis, until each term's add/drop date. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
