Improve English language skills for college and university study.Program OverviewImprove your English skillsSheridan offers full-time, intensive English for Academic Purposes (EAP) classes for students who want to improve their English skills for personal, professional or academic reasons. The highest level, Level 5, can provide you with a conditional acceptance into a diploma, degree or post-graduate certificate at Sheridan.Sheridan's EAP program offers five levels of instruction: Level 1 (formerly Foundations): 14 weeks; 25 hours/week Level 2 (formerly Pre-intermediate): 14 weeks; 25 hours/week Level 3 (formerly Intermediate): 14 weeks; 25 hours/week Level 4 (formerly Advanced): 14 weeks; 25 hours/week Level 5 (formerly English for Academic Purposes): 14 weeks; 22 hours/week You will be placed in one of these levels based on the results of your IELTS Academic, TOEFL (iBT) or Duolingo scores. You will work on group projects and assignments that require interaction with your peers and in the community. You will practice speaking, listening, reading, pronunciation and writing in a classroom and in labs. You will also learn to do presentations, research topics, take notes and write texts in English.Highly qualified educatorsProfessors in the English for Academic Purposes program are TESL Ontario certified and include educators holding PhDs and master’s degrees. They are knowledgeable in the most innovative and proven methods of teaching English as a second language.EAP program schedule EAP program classes are usually 10 a.m.–3 p.m. Monday to Friday but can be scheduled any time between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday to Friday. Your classes will be 22–25 hours per week. Additional hours every week are requested for completing homework and/or computer-assisted language learning. You will choose your timetable after fee payment, approximately three weeks before classes start. In-person and virtual class options: In person at Sheridan's Trafalgar Campus (Oakville) or Hazel McCallion Campus (Mississauga); or Online (through virtual/remote learning) for domestic applicants. EAP computer requirements: A laptop with a Windows operating system or a MacBook. The following devices do NOT meet the requirements: Smartphone, Chromebook, tablet or iPad. Admission Requirements: Entry requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, or that the applicant be at least 19 years old by the first day of classes. Rather than a proficiency threshold to clear, the programme itself places every applicant into one of five levels from a Duolingo, IELTS Academic or TOEFL iBT score, valid for two years up to the first day of classes: Level 1 for IELTS 2.5-3, TOEFL iBT 1.5 or below 31, or Duolingo 10-25; Level 2 for IELTS 3-4, TOEFL iBT 2 or 31-34, or Duolingo 30-50; Level 3 for IELTS 4-4.5, TOEFL iBT 2.5 or 34-44, or Duolingo 55-70; Level 4 for IELTS 4.5-5, TOEFL iBT 3 or 45-58, or Duolingo 75-80; and Level 5 for IELTS 5-6, TOEFL iBT 3.5 or above 58, or Duolingo 85-100. Final placement also depends on the individual skill scores within the chosen test. Domestic applicants apply through ontariocolleges.ca and international applicants apply directly to Sheridan; both may start in September, January or May.

Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply through ontariocolleges.ca: for programmes starting in Fall 2027 the application opened 26 September 2026, the equal-consideration date is 1 February 2027, and offers can go out from 1 November 2026, with portfolio- and audition-based programmes deciding later in March; accepted offers must be confirmed by 1 May 2027. Winter and Spring/Summer 2027 entry use the same portal but Sheridan publishes no fixed equal-consideration date for them and reviews those on an ongoing basis. International applicants apply directly through Sheridan's own International Application Portal, not ontariocolleges.ca; the college publishes no fixed international deadline and admits on a rolling, space-permitting basis, so early application is advised for the 2027 entry cycle. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
