Education Secondary: Bachelor Degree (BEd) - UBCV

Admission Requirements: The UBC Vancouver BEd is a post-baccalaureate teacher education program and is open to international students. Applicants need a completed bachelor's degree academically equivalent to a four-year, 120-credit UBC degree from an accredited institution, plus 6 credits of English Literature and Composition (French Literature and Composition for the French specialisation) all taken in one language - 6 credits of composition alone is not accepted, and grammar, linguistics, creative writing, technical or business writing, philosophy, translation and communications courses do not count. Each teachable subject sets its own prerequisite coursework, which you check against the Faculty's secondary self-assessment worksheets; you may apply to the Secondary option or to Elementary & Middle Years, but not to both. UBC strongly prefers at least 100 hours of paid or voluntary experience working with groups of ten or more age-appropriate students or youth, with 50 of those hours from a single continuous placement, and requires two reference report forms and a Personal Profile. English proficiency is met either by graduating from a degree taught in English at a university in a country where English is the principal language, or by a TOEFL or IELTS result. Applications for the 2027/28 intake open in October 2026 and close on 31 January 2027 on EducationPlannerBC, with documents due the same day, the academic requirements supplemental form due 15 February 2027, all academic work including prerequisites completed by 30 June 2027 and final transcripts by 31 July 2027. Most applicants hear the decision in May. Admission is competitive and meeting the requirements does not guarantee a place.
