Overview
The PhD in Clinical Psychology at UBC Okanagan is the doctoral stage of the Department of Psychology's CPA-accredited MA-PhD track, built on the scientist-practitioner model with an emphasis on evidence-based assessment and intervention. The PhD is planned over 60 months and combines coursework, clinical practica, a dissertation and a residency. Minimum requirements include six credits of graduate statistics and methodology, three credits in each of the biological, cognitive-affective and social cognate areas, six credits in each of individual differences, assessment and intervention, a credit in clinical supervision, comprehensive examinations, up to 900 hours of supervised practica as needed to reach competency, defence of the doctoral dissertation (PSYO 699), and a one-year full-time residency at a CPA- or APA-accredited site. Students gain supervised experience with real clients in the department's in-house Psychology Clinic. Based in the Irving K. Barber Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences in Kelowna.

Admission Requirements: Applicants will normally hold a BA or BSc together with a thesis-based MA (or equivalent) in clinical psychology or a related field, and must demonstrate clear evidence of research ability along with sufficient background training for advanced work in the field. The program page does not state a specific minimum GPA, and English test scores are set by the College of Graduate Studies' general standards rather than published here. A complete application includes the online application and fee, official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions, evidence of English proficiency where applicable, a CV or résumé, three reference forms or letters (at least two academic, submitted directly by referees), and a letter of intent describing research interests and plans. Because the program involves clinical practica with vulnerable populations, applicants must also be able to clear a criminal record check.
