Program details

Overview

The Aboriginal Access Studies Pathway prepares and transitions Indigenous learners into degree programs at UBCV. The program is a combination of academic and non-academic activities to form a supportive university setting. You will attend tutorials and workshops to enhance academic skills and knowledge. Students can apply to a post-secondary degree program after successfully completing a minimum of six courses (18 credits). Those who achieve a minimum of 60% in each of their courses and who meet program requirements are considered eligible to transfer into their desired UBC Okanagan campus undergraduate degree program. Courses taken in Aboriginal Access Studies will apply towards degree programs as either required or elective credits.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: This is a foundation-year pathway rather than a direct-entry degree: the program's own page states it welcomes a diverse range of Indigenous applicants who may not be prepared for direct admission to a degree program, including recent high school graduates, mature students, and those whose academic record does not reflect their potential; it sets no minimum grade average or standardized English test score. Applicants submit transcripts from high school, upgrading, and/or other post-secondary study, and are encouraged to work with an Indigenous Student Advisor, who assesses individual goals and builds a customised academic plan rather than applying fixed benchmarks. Students may start the program in either September or January, and applications are accepted year-round.

Application Details

Start Date: September and January
Application Deadline: Domestic and international undergraduate applicants both apply through EducationPlannerBC for Winter Session 2027/28 (September 2027 entry) and Summer 2027: applications open in early October 2026 and the equal-consideration deadline is 15 January 2027, 11:59 p.m. PST, the same date for both groups; a few programs keep reviewing late applications on a space-available basis afterwards. Earlier dates apply only to entrance-award consideration -- 15 November 2026 for the International Scholars Program and 1 December 2026 for Presidential/Centennial/Beyond Tomorrow scholars. Several limited-entry programmes -- Law, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing (advanced entry), Occupational/Physical Therapy, Social Work and Teacher Education -- set their own earlier deadlines from October 2026 through February 2027. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
