Overview
The MEd in Home Economics Education is the course-based counterpart to the department's MA, offered by UBC's Department of Curriculum and Pedagogy and taken in person at the Vancouver campus. Listed as coursework with options, it has no thesis component, and applicants are asked not to approach faculty about supervision. The programme is small and closely connected to the wider Faculty of Education, with shared interests in global education, critical inquiry, food, health, the environment and inquiry into teaching practice. Entry normally requires one to two years of teacher education or a four-year BEd (which can be waived for applicants with a suitable degree and related experience), roughly 18 credits of senior coursework or a professional concentration in the field, a CV and statement of intent setting out the intended focus, and a minimum of two years of paid professional experience in educational settings.

Admission Requirements: Admission to the Master of Education in Home Economics Education requires the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies' general minimum academic average, the B+ range (76% at UBC), together with one to two years of teacher education or a four-year Bachelor's degree in Education, normally including 18 credits of senior coursework or a professional concentration in the area of interest; in special circumstances the teacher-education requirement may be waived for applicants with a university degree of sufficient standing and experience. A minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in paid employment in educational settings and/or roles is mandatory. International applicants whose prior education was not delivered in English must meet UBC's graduate English requirement: IELTS Academic overall 6.5 across all components; TOEFL overall 92 (4.5 on UBC's 6-point scale) with Reading, Writing and Speaking at 22 and Listening at 22; or Duolingo English Test overall 125 with Reading 120, Writing 130, Speaking 125 and Listening 120. The application requires three references, a resume/CV and a statement of intent outlining the area of interest, plus official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions. For the September 2027 intake, applications open October 1, 2026 and close December 1, 2026, with transcript and referee submissions due December 8, 2026.

Several limited-entry programmes -- Law, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing (advanced entry), Occupational/Physical Therapy, Social Work and Teacher Education -- set their own earlier deadlines from October 2026 through February 2027.
