Overview
The Master of Landscape Architecture at UBC is an accredited, three-year professional degree in which design studios sit at the centre of a demanding curriculum, most of which is required coursework. Studios run alongside classes in landscape history and theory, site analysis, planning and environmental management, so that design work is continually informed by ecological and cultural context. In the later stages students shape their own direction through specialised topic studios, elective choices and, above all, the Graduation Project. Internships can be taken for credit, letting students refine design-development and documentation skills in practice while building a professional network. The program is delivered in person at the Vancouver campus, where students benefit from small student-to-faculty ratios, a research library ranked among Canada's best and a public lecture series that brings guests from the local landscape architecture community onto campus.

Admission Requirements: Admission to the Master of Landscape Architecture requires the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies' general minimum academic average, the B+ range (76% at UBC); the program notes individual programs may set higher standards. International applicants whose prior education was not delivered in English must meet UBC's graduate English requirement, tested within 24 months of submission: IELTS Academic overall 7.0 with every component at least 6.5; TOEFL overall 4.5 with Reading and Writing at 4.5, Speaking at 4.0 and Listening at 5.0; or Duolingo English Test overall 125 with Reading and Listening at 115 and Writing and Speaking at 120. The application requires three letters of reference, a statement of interest, and transcripts from all post-secondary institutions; the GRE is not required, and this course-based program has no thesis component, so applicants should not contact faculty about supervision. Average completion time is 2.7 years, ranging from 1.7 to 4 years.

Application Deadline:Domestic and international undergraduate applicants both apply through EducationPlannerBC for Winter Session 2027/28 (September 2027 entry) and Summer 2027: applications open in early October 2026 and the equal-consideration deadline is 15 January 2027, 11:59 p.m. PST, the same date for both groups; a few programs keep reviewing late applications on a space-available basis afterwards. Earlier dates apply only to entrance-award consideration -- 15 November 2026 for the International Scholars Program and 1 December 2026 for Presidential/Centennial/Beyond Tomorrow scholars. Several limited-entry programmes -- Law, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing (advanced entry), Occupational/Physical Therapy, Social Work and Teacher Education -- set their own earlier deadlines from October 2026 through February 2027. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
