Literacy Education: Master of Education (MEd) - UBCV

Admission Requirements: Admission to the Master of Education in Literacy Education requires a minimum GPA of 76% average, though the program notes a considerably higher standing may be needed given competitive demand, and one of: an approved Bachelor's degree plus one year of teacher education for K-12 teachers, a five-year Bachelor's degree in Education, or a four-year Bachelor's degree in Education or another appropriate area with the necessary prerequisites completed; holders of three-year Canadian degrees need a fourth or honours year. At least two years of successful teaching experience or equivalent is also required. Applicants whose prior education was not in English or from a North American institution must meet the program's English standard: IELTS Academic overall 7.0 with every component at least 6.5; TOEFL overall 5.0 with Reading at 4.5, Writing and Listening at 5.0 and Speaking at 4.0; or Duolingo English Test overall 130 with Reading, Speaking and Listening at 120 and Writing at 140. The application requires three letters of recommendation (at least one academic), a statement of intent of up to 500 words, a scholarly writing sample of up to 30 pages, a CV, and transcripts from all post-secondary institutions. For the September 2027 intake, the application deadline is February 1, 2027, with transcripts due February 5, 2027 and referee submissions due February 12, 2027.
