Overview
Wetlands are highly productive, diverse environments that provide critical habitat for specialist plants and wildlife, mitigate flooding, remove excess nutrients from water and provide natural fire breaks in the landscape. Though wetlands are protected and regulated in Canada, the loss and degradation of wetland habitats have been extensive. The Wetland Delineation and Assessment (WDA) micro-credential courses address an urgent need for rigorous, unbiased training on the assessment and delineation of wetland boundaries, with topics including wetland classification, functions and values, impact assessment and wetland policy.

Admission Requirements: This UBC Okanagan Continuing Studies micro-credential is aimed at professionals with a university degree or college diploma in a science or engineering discipline; practising resource professionals such as agrologists, biologists, engineers, hydrologists, industrial managers, foresters, technologists and planners; land managers in forestry, agriculture, fisheries, hydrology, water treatment, land development and wildfire resiliency; government employees at municipal, provincial, federal and Indigenous levels; conservation organizations; individuals seeking employment in an environmental field; and post-secondary students seeking practical experience. No GPA, prior-course grade, or English-language test score is published beyond this stated audience, and the program page offers a sign-up-for-updates option rather than describing a formal application process.

Application Deadline:Domestic and international undergraduate applicants both apply through EducationPlannerBC for Winter Session 2027/28 (September 2027 entry) and Summer 2027: applications open in early October 2026 and the equal-consideration deadline is 15 January 2027, 11:59 p.m. PST, the same date for both groups; a few programs keep reviewing late applications on a space-available basis afterwards. Earlier dates apply only to entrance-award consideration -- 15 November 2026 for the International Scholars Program and 1 December 2026 for Presidential/Centennial/Beyond Tomorrow scholars. Several limited-entry programmes -- Law, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing (advanced entry), Occupational/Physical Therapy, Social Work and Teacher Education -- set their own earlier deadlines from October 2026 through February 2027. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
