TESOL 1: Graduate Certificate

The Graduate Certificate in TESOL 1, offered through Trinity Western University's School of Education, combines in-person coursework with guided teaching observations and a flexible practicum placement to prepare students to teach English as a second language. Coursework covers theoretical, methodological, and professional topics in language education, including foundational principles of language acquisition, teaching methodologies, classroom practices, and cross-cultural awareness. The program consists of eight consecutive weeks of coursework followed by a practicum, and students choose between a K-12 international practicum with potential employment opportunities abroad, or a Canadian adult language education practicum that aligns with TESL Canada Standard 1 certification. The certificate is open to domestic students only, defined as Canadian citizens or permanent residents.
