Certificate on Addictions

The Certificate on Addictions is a 24-credit, part-time undergraduate program at Université de Moncton designed for adult learners, including people seeking personal knowledge of substance use and professionals or caregivers who work with people affected by addiction across health services (addiction, psychiatric, and emergency), social and community services, education, justice, and other sectors. It aims to convey theoretical and methodological knowledge for understanding addiction today and to develop skills for effective intervention in the field. The required introductory course covers fundamental concepts, classification, and general effects of psychoactive substances, the context of drug use and related phenomena, laws and legal measures governing consumption, detoxification, withdrawal, and clinical follow-up programs, and types of users, misconceptions, and codependency. The 24 credits are split between 12 mandatory and 12 elective credits. The certificate leads to a credential rather than a degree and is delivered on a part-time basis to accommodate working adults.
