Overview
This Honors program in Biochemistry studies the chemistry of living organisms and the molecular basis of change in living cells, providing grounding for applications in medicine, agriculture, veterinary medicine, and forensics. The Honors track is a structured program that includes a directed research project in the senior year, with access to a research-abroad course and a Certificate in Biomedical Research. Admission Requirements: Direct entry from Alberta high school (or equivalent) requires five Grade 12 courses: English Language Arts 30-1; Mathematics 30-1; two of Chemistry 30, Physics 30, Biology 30, Computing Science 30 (Advanced), or Mathematics 31; and one further course from Fine Arts, Humanities, Languages other than English, or Math/Sciences. This subject area also requires Biology 30, Chemistry 30, and Physics 20 (Physics 30 recommended) as a prerequisite before registering in program courses. The minimum average to apply to the BSc Honors program is 80%; meeting it does not guarantee admission, since places are allocated by a competitive average that varies by year. Applicants whose primary language is not English must meet the university's English Language Proficiency requirement. Admission is offered for the Fall (September) term only.
