Program details

Overview

This is a Bachelor of Arts in Gender and Sexuality Studies at the University of Calgary, delivered through the Faculty of Arts. The program addresses issues of gender and sexuality alongside race, class, disability, citizenship and documentation status, age, and environmental issues, using an intersectional, global approach that incorporates equity, diversity and inclusion themes across its courses. Students can pursue an honours degree track involving in-depth study of a specific topic under faculty supervision, and study abroad opportunities are available for students who want to combine the degree with international study. It suits students interested in analyzing social difference and inequality through an intersectional lens, preparing graduates for a range of careers that the program describes as spanning advocacy, policy, education, community and other sectors engaging with issues of gender, sexuality and social justice.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Direct entry from Alberta high school, per the program's own admission-requirements tool. Admitting averages are calculated using four approved courses for early admission and the full course set above for standard admission. No test, portfolio, or audition is listed for this program.

Application Details

Application Deadline: For Fall 2027 entry, the University of Calgary opens undergraduate applications for domestic applicants on 1 October 2026 and for international applicants on 15 August 2026, both closing on the same firm application deadline of 1 March 2027, with supporting documents due by 15 March 2027 and offers accepted by 1 May 2027. International applicants follow the identical March 1 deadline; the university publishes no separate, later international closing date. Applications are not accepted on a rolling basis after the deadline for most direct-entry programmes, though a small number of programmes (e.g. Nursing) run further selection rounds into the summer while space remains. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
