Overview
The Accounting concentration within the Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Calgary's Haskayne School of Business covers the creation, dissemination, and evaluation of financial information, alongside technical and information-technology skills relevant to entry-level accounting positions. Early coursework includes introductory financial accounting and business analytics, combined with broader business skills courses. Instruction includes case studies and collaborative group projects, with some courses taught by faculty who have industry or executive backgrounds. Students can pursue an optional co-operative work placement that alternates full-time paid work terms with academic study, as well as international exchange opportunities through partner institutions and mentorship opportunities. The program is based at the Haskayne School of Business on the university's Calgary campus and admits high school graduates, transfer students, and mature or after-degree students. It suits students planning careers such as forensic accounting, financial auditing, or tax accounting, and can also serve as a foundation for graduate studies or professional programs in fields such as law, medicine, or education.
