National Program (JD)

The National Program (JD) at the University of Ottawa is a one-year program for graduates of civil law who wish to obtain a Juris Doctor (JD) common law degree. The program is delivered by the Common Law Section of the Faculty of Law, which is accredited by the Canadian Federation of Law Societies and offers courses spanning public law, private law, litigation and dispute resolution, Aboriginal law, international law and human rights, technology law, and environmental law. Students who have completed a civil law degree, or who are in their third year of civil law studies, may apply to complete a Juris Doctor over one academic year, comprising 30 units. The program is offered in English and French, and students must be able to read and express themselves in both languages. Enrolled students face restrictions on simultaneous enrollment in other full-time programs and on courses with substantial civil law content.
