Overview
The Bachelor of Science in Nuring Year 1 entry provides industry training to provide safe, ethical, culturally sensitive, and person-centered care as a registered nurse in hospitals, communities, homes, clinics, and residential facilities. Major emphasis on active student participation with formative and summative lab activities designed to simulate clinical reality.

Admission Requirements: Entry is competitive: VCC ranks applicants on a combined assessment of prerequisite GPA and a CASPer result, and preference can go to those above the minimum on both, so meeting the floor does not by itself win a seat. The academic requirement is 18 credits of first-year undergraduate study, made up of six credits of English (ENGL 1100 or equivalent at a minimum 'C+' plus a further three English credits at 'C+'), six credits from BIOL 1120 and BIOL 1220 Human Anatomy and Physiology at a minimum 'C+' or equivalent taken within five years of the application date, and six credits of humanities or social sciences at a minimum 'C+'. A CASPer score must be submitted and counts for one admission cycle only. Acceptable courses are VCC's own plus their BC Transfer Guide equivalents; anything else is assessed individually, and documents from outside Canada or the United States may need a comprehensive evaluation from the International Credential Evaluation Service. All education requirements must be met by the date VCC posts, or the application is cancelled, and applicants who qualify but miss out are not carried to the next intake — you reapply. On acceptance you must clear a criminal record check carried out to VCC's instructions — a result indicating risk to vulnerable populations prevents you from completing practicums or graduating, hold CPR-BLS certification valid throughout, submit a negative tuberculosis skin test or chest X-ray dated within six months of the start, complete the School of Health Sciences immunisation record, and provide an annual N95 respirator fit-test certificate at your own cost on the first day of class. A one-year deferral can be requested in specific circumstances. VCC states this programme is open to Canadian citizens and permanent residents and directs international students to VCC International, which lists separately the programmes open to them. The BC College of Nurses and Midwives asks registration applicants about criminal offences, and registration is compulsory to practise in the province.
