Dental Hygiene Diploma

Admission Requirements: Admission runs as an annual competitive selection combining prerequisite grade point average with Casper, an online situational-judgement test. The academic requirement is at least 30 credits of first-year university-level study, or equivalents, at an overall GPA of 3.0 ('B'), made up of six credits of English (an academic writing course is strongly recommended), six credits of Human Anatomy and Physiology taken at one institution and including labs, six credits of Chemistry including labs, six credits of Psychology, three credits of Statistics and three elective credits; where a higher-year course in a required subject was taken, the better grade is considered. A Casper score must be submitted and is valid for one admission cycle. Applicants whose documents are not from a Canadian or American institution must supply a comprehensive evaluation from the International Credential Evaluation Service at BCIT together with its VCC Dental Hygiene supplemental report. Education requirements must be met by the posted date or the application is cancelled, and qualified applicants who are not offered a seat have to reapply for a later intake. On acceptance you must clear a criminal record check carried out to VCC's instructions — a result indicating risk to vulnerable populations prevents you from completing practicums or graduating, hold CPR-BLS certification valid throughout, submit a negative tuberculosis skin test or chest X-ray dated within six months of the start, complete the School of Health Sciences immunisation record, and provide proof of a dental examination by a licensed British Columbia dentist within six months of the start. N95 mask fit testing, valid for a year, is arranged during the programme before clinical rotations. VCC states this programme is open to Canadian citizens and permanent residents and directs international students to VCC International, which lists separately the programmes open to them.
