Automotive Collision and Refinishing Foundation Certificate is a foundation in Trades programme taught at Vancouver Community College in Vancouver, Canada. The programme runs for 35 weeks, delivered on campus. Teaching is in English. Tuition is CAD 4,400 per total for local students.
This foundation certificate introduces students to automotive collision repair and refinishing without prior trade experience or an employer sponsor. Delivered full-time over 35 weeks combining in-class and online instruction at VCC's Broadway campus, with intakes in February and September, the programme awards 42 credits across ten courses. Coursework covers occupational safety, welding and cutting processes, metal and plastic panel repair, surface preparation, refinishing application, and vehicle detailing, building toward the ability to prime, repair, and finish damaged vehicle panels to a factory-equivalent standard. As an entry-level credential, it does not itself confer full trade certification but is positioned as a pathway into the automotive collision trades, including toward apprenticeship registration with SkilledTradesBC. The programme accepts both high school students, through the Youth Train in Trades pathway available to those in grades 10 and 11, and adult applicants, who must meet English 10 and basic computer literacy requirements. It suits individuals considering a career in vehicle body repair who want foundational, supervised training before committing to an employer-sponsored apprenticeship, and who are prepared for the physical demands of the trade, including standing for extended periods and working with paints and solvents.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Academic entry needs English 10 or equivalent, or department approval; basic computer skills and access to an internet-connected device are also required. No English-proficiency test score (IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Duolingo or CAEL) is stated. Adult applicants apply through EducationPlannerBC; secondary students in Grades 10-11 do not apply directly to VCC and instead go through their school district's Career Program Coordinator or Administrator. General conditions: Canadian citizen or permanent resident (international options are listed separately), aged 16 or older or a secondary-school graduate, official transcripts and required documents submitted, with seats awarded to eligible applicants in order of completed application; VCC's tuition-free academic upgrading and ESL courses are available to applicants missing a prerequisite. Intakes run in February and September.
Application Details
Start Date:February and September intakes. VCC's academic year runs in three terms: Winter (January to April), Spring/Summer (May to August) and Fall (September to December).
Application Deadline:Domestic applicants (Canadian citizens and permanent residents) apply through EducationPlannerBC. VCC publishes this programme's windows term by term on its When to Apply page: Winter 2027 entry (February start) — open 1 February 2026, close 1 October 2026; Fall 2027 entry (September start) — open 1 October 2026, close 1 June 2027. Seats go to eligible applicants in the order their applications are completed, so the programme can close before the listed end date once it fills. VCC's page for this programme states it is open to Canadian citizens and permanent residents, and points international students to VCC International, which lists separately the programmes and intakes open to them; there the application periods open on 1 February, 1 June and 1 October of the previous year for the Winter, Spring/Summer and Fall terms, with no fixed closing date — a programme accepts applications until roughly three to four months before classes begin, or until its seats are gone.
