Overview
As a carpenter you’ll build and repair residential, commercial and industrial buildings in accordance with local building codes. You’ll work with a variety of construction materials including wood, concrete, fasteners and engineered products, and use a wide array of hand and power tools.
Learn the carpentry skills you need to start working in the field and prepare for apprenticeship in our Foundation program, where you’ll spend about 70 percent of your time doing hands-on practical work.

Admission Requirements: Admission is direct entry: applicants need high school graduation or equivalent, or qualification as a mature student, plus English 11 completed at a minimum of 60% and Math 11 completed at a minimum of 60%, and must be in good health for shop-based trades work. The program page lists no portfolio, interview or prior work-experience requirement. It states no English-language test score of its own; Thompson Rivers University's institution-wide requirement for direct entry into on-campus undergraduate certificate and diploma programs, set out on TRU's admission requirements page, is IELTS Academic 6.5 with no band below 6.0, or TOEFL iBT 88 with no section below 20.

International applicants follow the same intake structure with deadlines of 1 May (September), 1 October (January) and 1 February (May); TRU still reviews later applications where space remains, though high-volume programs can close early, so admission runs on a rolling basis around these published cut-offs for the 2027 entry cycle. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
