Overview
Cognitive Systems is a master's programme taught in English that awards a Magister Scientiae (MSc) and carries 120 ECTS credits. It is a joint degree between the Open University of Cyprus and the University of Cyprus, involving the latter's departments of Psychology and Computer Science.
The programme treats the modern computer as an assistant that people collaborate with rather than a tool they simply operate. To teach this view of cognitive computing it combines two fields: cognitive psychology, which looks at how people perceive, learn, represent ideas mentally and reason, and artificial intelligence within computer science.
Students learn computational methods to understand and to design cognitive systems, including symbolic and connectionist artificial intelligence and machine learning. Courses from both disciplines are organised into five themes: Foundations, Perception, Learning, Reasoning and Systems.
