Overview

This course starts from the fact that cities now hold more than half the world's population and looks at pressures including unplanned and fast urban growth, patterns of development that are not sustainable, and the twin tasks of mitigating and adapting to climate change. It examines how cities and their populations are becoming more vulnerable and increasingly exposed to both sudden and slow-onset climate and environmental disasters, the frequency and intensity of which are growing rapidly.
