Fiji National University's Diploma in Aquaculture (Level 5) is a two-year, full-time programme that builds competence in pond and hatchery management, fish breeding, freshwater and coastal aquaculture and mariculture, aquatic farming systems, aquaculture nutrition, and the craft and gear technology the sector relies on. Graduates gain an education geared toward direct employment or self-employment in Fiji's growing aquaculture sector, alongside a foundation for continuing learning and personal development. The qualification combines the biological and technical knowledge needed to operate hatcheries, ponds and farming systems with the practical skills required to manage aquatic production commercially. Entry calls for at least 200 out of 400 marks, with 50 percent in Mathematics, English and one of Biology, Agriculture or Chemistry, under the Fiji Year 12 Certificate Examination (the modern name for the old Fiji School Leaving/Form 6 exam), plus one further subject from an approved list spanning science, technology, computing, economics and related fields.
