Fiji National University's Diploma in Architectural Drafting prepares students for technical posts assisting and supporting project officers, architects and senior staff in preparing the documentation that architectural projects require. Delivered over three years for 360 credit points at the Samabula campus, the programme builds drafting knowledge and technical understanding of construction materials, regulations, building codes, by-laws and standards used in Fiji and abroad. Units move from construction science, materials and draughting practices, engineering mathematics and surveying in the first year through professional practice and CAD-based architectural draughting using AutoCAD and Vector Works into the second year, with scoping, preliminary design and contract management also covered. Entry for fresh school leavers requires twelve years of continuous education, equivalent to the Fiji Year 12 Certificate Examination, with at least 50 percent in English and a science subject such as Chemistry, Technical Drawing or Computer Studies; Certificate IV holders, those with a First Line Supervision certificate, or mature applicants combining substantial industrial experience with Green Building training, may also be admitted subject to HOD and Dean approval.
