The same 2005 legislation that created demand for environmental managers in Fiji underpins this companion diploma, which takes a more scientific route into the field. Students learn to apply environmental-management fundamentals, analyse and remedy physical and biological problems, and work through units in field sampling, pollution control and environmental law, building the technical grounding needed by industry and government agencies that must manage environmental risk.
Run from the Lautoka and Nabua campuses over two years for 240 credit points, the Environmental Science major opens with computer principles, environmental science and earth processes before moving in year two into pollution, biodiversity conservation and environmental law, with electives spanning chemistry, physics and statistics.
