Overview

The Master of Arts in Social Policy examines the political and development ideologies behind policy formation and implementation across fields such as public health, housing, social security and protection, child protection, ageing and disability care, as well as youth, diversity, social exclusion, family, crime and human-rights issues. Year 1 covers policy science design and analysis, critical issues in development thought, research methods for social policy, and political systems and the state, while Year 2 moves into a research seminar, a special topic in policy instrumentation, and a supervised minor or full thesis. The two-year, 240-credit-point degree is taught at the Nasinu campus. Entry is normally built on FNU's own Postgraduate Diploma in Social Policy, passed at a GPA no lower than 3.0, or a recognised equivalent; applicants who fall short may still be admitted by showing sufficient maturity, relevant work background or recognised prior learning, subject to any prerequisite the Dean sets.
