This specialisation builds a grounding in computer science and software engineering, covering the design and implementation of large, complex software systems together with web and cloud technologies, and developing the ability to manage and improve software development with support from AI tools. Web and cloud computing are treated as a platform for software such as big-data-driven applications, and students can choose courses across topics including big data, the internet of things, information security, user experience and business. Teaching connects to research carried out at a dedicated software engineering research centre and an AI research lab, and to the concentration of IT companies based in the region. Described graduate roles include software developer, cloud and infrastructure specialist, work on data-driven applications and emerging technologies, process and management-oriented positions, security and quality-assurance work, and academic or research careers, spanning both industry and academia. It is one of the specialisations within the Master's Programme that covers Computing Sciences and Electrical Engineering.
