The University of Eastern Finland is part of the Kajaani University Consortium (KUC). The Kajaani University Consortium consists of four networked universities (Eastern Finland, Lapland, Jyväskylä and Oulu) that have units in Kajaani and Sotkamo.

BSc in Information Technology at UEF gives the student the core knowledge of Computer Science. Core contains basic and advanced programming, algorithms, data management, software design, human-computer interaction, etc. In addition to Computer Science studies, the students take 1-2 minor subjects, such as Data Science, Business, Law, Social Sciences, and Environmental Sciences. BSC in IT is a full-time, three-year program. Most of the studies are conducted in contact teaching at Joensuu/Kuopio. Part of the courses are implemented together with the Bachelor of Engineering (Information and Communication Technology) programme of the Karelia University of Applied Sciences.After completing the Bachelor's degree, students continue directly to the Master's degree programme in Information Technology (IMPIT) which is a two-year MSc programme offering strong research opportunities. The aim is that most students are employed by a Finnish ICT company when they graduate. Some of these companies offer internships and thesis placements and many of our students find a job even before the graduation. The Faculty of Science, Forestry and Technology of the University of Eastern Finland responds to global challenges through its high-quality multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research and education. The research in the Doctoral Programme in Science, Forestry and Technology (LUMETO) touches upon three of the four profile areas of the University of Eastern Finland, in particular, on “Environmental change and sustainable use of natural resources”, and also on “Ageing, lifestyles and health” and “Diversifying learning and interaction”. The aim of the doctoral programme is to provide doctoral researchers with the skills to create new expertise and solutions that can be used to respond to global challenges by critically and independently utilising the methods of scientific research. The doctoral degree provides the skills to work in demanding expert, development and research positions in universities, the business world and the public sector. The Faculty conducts research in the fields of cultural studies, literature, translation studies, linguistics and logopedics (School of Humanities), psychology, special education, educational sciences, adult educational sciences and guidance (School of Educational Sciences and Psychology), educational sciences, early childhood education, craft science and home economics (School of Applied Educational Science and Teacher Education) and western and Orthodox theology (School of Theology).
