Program details

Overview

The Diploma of Civil Engineering at Australian University runs for two years and carries 60 credit hours, giving students an entry point into the civil-engineering field before they progress, if they choose, to the bachelor's pathway in the same department. Coursework opens with foundation subjects such as technical writing and calculus before moving into discipline-specific areas including surveying and concrete structures across four semesters. Through the programme, learners work on applying core mathematics, science and engineering principles, together with standard hardware and software tools, to problems that are already well defined rather than open-ended research questions. They practise running tests and experiments in their area of study and interpreting the data these produce, and they assist with designing basic engineering systems and components under guidance. The curriculum also stresses working within recognised codes and standards, with safety on site treated as a constant concern, and asks students to weigh how their engineering choices affect communities, economies and the environment around a project.
