The Master of Philosophy is a two-year evening programme taught in English at the Seminary Campus of the University of Saint Joseph in Macao, within the Faculty of Religious Studies and Philosophy.
It is designed for people who want to explore cross-cultural questions and take part in a conversation between different philosophical traditions. The focus is comparative philosophy, which sets the ideas and habits of thought of different cultures side by side to build understanding and to find new ways of solving problems.
The first year covers academic writing and research methods, with reflection on approaches to ethics, aesthetics, and how knowledge and interpretation are theorised. The second year deepens skills through research seminars and a dissertation that applies philosophical methods drawn from several cultures. Students hold full-time status even though classes meet in the evening.
