Program details
Overview
This master's programme brings together engineering practice and project management, built around studio-based design work that is reviewed through peer feedback and a critique jury so your projects develop under ongoing scrutiny. Alongside design, you take on the role of an engineer in training, learning to gather data, interpret results and communicate with clients in a professional capacity.
A central theme is treating buildings and infrastructure as major capital assets, and the course trains you to manage construction projects strategically while balancing the interests of the various parties involved, from clients to contractors.
Delivered full-time over four semesters for 120 ECTS credits, combining taught study with a research element, the programme meets the academic requirement for registration as a perit in Malta and for recognition as a professional engineer at European level, with further academic routes open to graduates afterwards.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: UM applies course-specific entry requirements under its regulations and bye-laws. Local applicants are assessed on qualifications such as the Matriculation Certificate, International Baccalaureate, or European Baccalaureate; international applicants hold overseas qualifications evaluated individually for comparability with UM's standards, with no extra requirements beyond the course's own criteria. MATSEC-qualification applicants must apply as soon as they receive their first result slip after the May/June session; students sitting September resits should apply by the course's first deadline rather than waiting on resit results. After evaluation, the Office of the Registrar issues a decision letter. Admission may also be granted via Recognition and Accreditation of Prior Learning (RPL) for undergraduate and taught postgraduate courses.
