Overview
This research master's in Construction draws on the full range of departments within the Faculty for the Built Environment, allowing a project to be shaped around areas such as civil, structural or building engineering, building and conservation science, planning and construction management, or related interdisciplinary themes, depending on where supervision and resources are available.
Rather than a fixed curriculum, the degree centres on an individual research project carried out under academic guidance, giving scope to investigate a specific construction-related question in depth.
Studied part-time during the day over five semesters for 90 ECTS credits at master's level, the degree is not aimed at a specific professional career path outside academia, but it opens the way to further research study at the University of Malta or at institutions abroad.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: UM applies course-specific entry requirements under its regulations and bye-laws. Local applicants are assessed on qualifications such as the Matriculation Certificate, International Baccalaureate, or European Baccalaureate; international applicants hold overseas qualifications evaluated individually for comparability with UM's standards, with no extra requirements beyond the course's own criteria. MATSEC-qualification applicants must apply as soon as they receive their first result slip after the May/June session; students sitting September resits should apply by the course's first deadline rather than waiting on resit results. After evaluation, the Office of the Registrar issues a decision letter. Admission may also be granted via Recognition and Accreditation of Prior Learning (RPL) for undergraduate and taught postgraduate courses.
