Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

Signum Magnum College's online Doctor of Philosophy is a research doctorate at EQF/MQF Level 8, delivered entirely online with supervision in English and, depending on the field, additional languages. Candidates choose from twelve research fields, including law and education among others, and progress through eight formal phases rather than a fixed set of taught terms. The route moves from identifying a genuine gap in the field, through developing methods and gathering evidence, to writing an original thesis and defending it at a final examination. Along the way candidates are expected to handle incomplete or contradictory evidence critically, show initiative in solving open-ended problems, and set their own criteria for judging competing approaches rather than following a prescribed checklist. The degree is only conferred once a Board of Examiners has confirmed a successful defence and any required corrections have been formally verified, so timing to completion depends on each candidate's own research progress.
